Here is my interview with Cathleen Townsend

The lovely, generous Fiona Mcvie interviewed me on her blog this week, and I’d like to share it with you here.

Name: Cathleen Townsend

Where are you from?

CT: I live in the beautiful Sierra Nevada foothills of northern California, between Sacramento and Tahoe. I have my very own thirteen-acre wood of mixed oak and pine, which is beyond incredible. I grew up in an LA suburb, so living on this much land is amazing. And the forest is so exquisitely lovely this time of year. For March, April, and May, it’s like living in Hobbiton.

Of course, then the grass turns brown in June because summer drought is normal in California. But even then it’s still pretty, in a more understated way.

Fiona: When and why did you begin writing?

CT: It was right after I turned fifty. Up until then, I’d never been able to write a story I thought was worth keeping. But it just blazed in front of me that if I didn’t start writing now, I’d…

Terrific interview! I didn’t know that you didn’t get serious about writing until after the age of 50. Sometimes aging does make us realize that we need to “get things done!”

    • Yeah, it really did in my case. I’m okay with what I did with the first half of my adult life–raising a family, building businesses with my husband, moving to our forest and making a home there–but it took hitting the big 5-0 to make me realize how much this meant to me.

  3. What a fun interview, Cathleen! I learned so much about you – you are one interesting person! And I really enjoyed the snip from Dragon Hoard – remind me not to propose anything to your dragons – yikes! Not at all grateful!

    • Thanks so much, Sharon. I tried to stop talking while it was still hopefully interesting.

I was feeling a little snippy about the manipulation of the markets at the time, although I’m not sure if a dragon would make the situation better or worse. 🙂

  4. Love the interview. You and I arrived late to writing. I too didn’t start until after 50, in a college creative writing class. I’ve never looked back.

  5. What a lovely interview, Cathleen, and thanks so much for the mention. That was sweet of you. I’m always amazed and impressed by how so many of us didn’t start writing until later in life. It makes sense, really, and I love knowing that there are adventures ahead. 7 books in 18 months is incredible! I just finished your book BTW and reviewed on Amazon. I’ll add to Goodreads before I forget! 😀
