Snow White and the Civil War, Parts 1 and 2

This is a retelling of Snow White, set in California’s gold country at the height of the Civil War. Two books were required to tell the tale.

Locked away in her room, every word she speaks, every move she makes is monitored. The next attempt on her life may well succeed…

Snow White covers combo clear background

Gwen’s biggest fear used to be the suitors her father inflicted on her. She hated agreeing with everything any man said, especially if that meant she had to agree with slavery.

But then Gwen’s father brought home a new bride. Gwen’s stepmother is not only beautiful, she’s determined to make everyone do her bidding. And to make this happen, she has a formidable weapon—witchcraft. When Gwen refuses to participate, she finds herself living in helpless dread.

Now her stepmother is trying to kill her. The latest attempt, poison in her apple, nearly succeeded.

Spied on via the many mirrors in their house, Gwen has no chance at all of escape. But she must find a way, or the next attempt on her life may well be the last…

Snow White and the Civil War is a single story told in two volumes. The tale concludes in part 2, Plot of Gold.

***

Part 1, Gwen’s tale, covers all the major fairy tale plot points, except the story is set in California’s gold country during the 1860s. I’ll tell you ahead of time that it ends in a cliffhanger. Snow White losing consciousness near the end of her story is canon, and one of the rules I gave myself for this story was to portray a recognizable version of Snow White. I could add all I needed to make it work, but I couldn’t leave out anything important.

However, since I didn’t give you a complete story, the ebook is free, and that’s not a limited time offer. If Amazon does reset the ebook price (this has happened in the past), please email me (link on my sidebar) and let me know so I can fix it.

Part 2 is Jack’s story, and that was where I did a deep dive into the history of the times. Relatively few people know the critical part California played in the Civil War. I do have to charge for this volume because websites and book covers cost, but I promise, all story threads will be tied up into neat little bows at the end.

Happy reading. : )
