Many of us are avid readers, and what’s more, we even warm the cockles of writers’ hearts by leaving reviews for their books. And if you don’t yet, please allow me to put in my plug for book reviewing in general here. Reviews mean the world to writers, particularly in the early days of their book launch.
I knew this. I already leave review book reviews. What I didn’t know is that I could give double the Amazon value for the same review.
Before, I always reviewed on Amazon.com. That’s where I buy my ebooks, and Amazon’s the most important place to have reviews, since most people buy from there. I review on goodreads as well, so I thought I had this reviewing thing down.
Not quite.
I had no idea I could also post reviews for Amazon UK. I found out by participating in a couple of goodreads Reading Rounds, where it’s standard procedure to post reviews on both Amazon.com and Amazon.co.uk. And it’s so easy.
For example, the link to my book Dragon Hoard is: https://www.amazon.com/Dragon-Hoard-Other-Tales-Faerie-ebook/dp/B0189TSEHE/.
Bonus tip: Most of us get our links using Amazon’s search box, which is fine, but you don’t want to use the entire link. If you search Cathleen Townsend Dragon Hoard, what you’ll actually get in the Amazon address is this: https://www.amazon.com/Dragon-Hoard-Other-Tales-Faerie-ebook/dp/B0189TSEHE/ref=cm_cr_arp_d_product_top?ie=UTF8. All the red highlighted text (everything after and including the ref=) should never be used when linking. For some reason, Amazon doesn’t like to see one link from a search reused like that, so if you’ve got the longer version linking to your own books, maybe on your blog page, now is a good time to clean up your links.
Ahem! Back to the point of this post. 🙂
So I put in the above link, and that will allow me to leave a review on Amazon.com for Dragon Hoard (or it would if I wasn’t the writer).
But all that’s needed to also leave a review on Amazon.co.uk is to make one little tweak. I change https://www.amazon.com/Dragon-Hoard-Other-Tales-Faerie-ebook/dp/B0189TSEHE/ to https://www.amazon.co.uk/Dragon-Hoard-Other-Tales-Faerie-ebook/dp/B0189TSEHE/. That’s it. Just delete the m in com and add period uk. Then leave a review on Amazon UK just like you would on Amazon.com. Just be sure to copy the first review so you can paste the same text for the second.
Of course, if you’re already in the UK, this procedure would be reversed. It’s still easy.
It’s a simple way to help support authors and help them get the recognition they so need.

Great tips from Cathleen – Please Note: using the same strategy, you can also post on Amazon Canada (.ca), Australia (.com.aus), India (.in), the three other main english language sites, plus, any of the other Amazon Online Stores for that matter – you can use your usual user name and password to access them all 😎

Cathleen, I’ve been wondering if this was possible since many books were from American authors and the largest readership is there but my reviews only appeared on UK site -bookmarking this for next time I post a review! 😀😀 Many thanks for sharing this top and explaining it so well.

I learned this the same way you did. Now what I do is write a review on my blog. That gets automatically posted to my Facebook and Twitter accounts. Then I copy the review to Amazon US, Amazon UK and Goodreads. Anything I can do to help an author, I will do.

Our systems sound identical. I love the WordPress feature that lets you automatically tweet and post to Facebook. 🙂

I wrote my first Amazon review for a book that my friend Jodi published there. I had no idea it was that easy to do! And thanks for the tip about reviewing on Amazon UK, too!

Wonderful supportive post, Cathleen. I’ve noticed that reviews I post on Amazon US appear on Amazon UK in one fashion or another, and UK has the link “Go to Amazon.com to see all reviews” at the bottom of its review page. Some of the reviews I posted to UK appear twice, under the headings “Top customer reviews” and “Most helpful customer reviews on Amazon.com.” I wonder if this is something new…

When I write reviews, I tend to post on Amazon US, UK, AUS, + Goodreads and LibraryThing, hoping to reach a wider audience.
