Feral Refrigerator Published by Longshot Island

LI-Logo-xsNote: This article had active links at the time it was published, but since then, Longshot Island seems to no longer be an active ezine.

Calling all writers–seriously consider submitting your stories to the nice folks over at Longshot Island. I’m happy to announce that I had another tale published there, although it’s a bit of a departure from my typical light fantasy. I was working on writing something truly different, since the judge was focused on finding stories that were unique (you can read about that experience in my post Clichés Can Be Surprising).

I ended up with a story about a rogue refrigerator, which I figured couldn’t possibly be an overused trope. You can find the free read here: http://www.longshotisland.com/2017/08/08/feral-refrigerator/.

In other good news, since they’ve published me several times now, Daniel White offered to do a feature page on me in their catalog. My fragile writer’s ego is beaming. They want an author pic that’s an entirely different orientation from the portrait on my About Me page, so my husband Tom snapped some pics during our morning walk, and we came up with this one. (Of course this had to happen just as I was saying I need a haircut.) Anyway, what do you think?

I was going to use the 100 word bio from my About Me page, with a slight modification:

Cathleen Townsend loves a good tale, especially if it involves history or fantasy. She resides in gold country in California’s beautiful Sierra Nevada foothills, which is fortunate because it encourages her to leave her keyboard and take her dogs for walks. She loves to chat with readers on her blog: cathleentownsend.com.

Cathleen has been published by Raven International Publishing, Thinkerbeat, Everyday Fiction, Fantasia Divinity, Story Emporium, Just a Minor Malfunction, and of course, the terrific folks at Longshot Island. A free digital copy of her first short story collection, Dragon Hoard and Other Tales of Faerie, is available to all comers on her website/blog.

Just thought I’d pass this along since it’s nice to hear some happy news. And I’d like to encourage all the writers out there again to submit to Longshot Island. I’d love to hear about your successes as well. 🙂

Quick update: My author page is up at Longshot Island. If you’re curious, you can see it here: http://www.longshotisland.com/catalogue/cathleen-townsend/. And an author interview of me is coming soon there, too. 🙂

Avid writer and reader of Faerie tales and noblebright fantasy.

Wow! Congratulations Cathleen, I am so happy for you. I like the expression…”fragile writer’s ego”…but as they say, never underestimate your talents. It is time to be ‘beaming’ and soaring higher! Wishing you more success and that picture is awesome! 🙂

And I read the story! Loved it (although I did feel sorry for the raccoons). This gives a whole new meaning to the phrase, “revenge is a dish best served cold,” doesn’t it?

  9. Congrats, Cathleen! Love the pic of you and the pups! I just loved this story–you really have a way with bringing inanimate objects to life (cell phone story 🙂 )! Since others have punned, I can say the fridge doled out its just desserts! I think you live very close to me, we must try to get together some day!
