Merry Christmas

christmas-candlesJust a quick post to wish everyone out in cyber-land a wonderful Christmas.

The northern California foothills are beautiful this time of year. The Sierra Nevadas are capped in white again, and the grass has recovered from its summer drought and turned a brilliant green. The buckeye have long lost their leaves and are elegant in their shapely, silvery nakedness. A little fall color lingers on in the big-leaf maples and pear trees, and daytime temps are usually in the fifties.

My stream is chattering away due to the recent rains, and the red mud underfoot can get slick at times. It’s best to keep an eye out for muddy spots.

We do get the occasional snowfall at our place, but usually if we want to see snow, we head upcountry a thousand feet or so. Really, it’s the perfect amount of snow. Just enough to be a treat, and rarely a nuisance.

May you have clement weather, family and friends to share the season with, a feast worthy of the occasion, and good books waiting for you under the tree. 🙂

  11. My sister lives in Northern California–she’s freezing! I’d move there if it weren’t still in California. Sigh.

  12. We celebrate all the way through to Epiphany. So I’ll wish you a merry holiday season right back, Cynthia. 🙂

And Jacqui, I get you about California. Sometimes it seems like the state is holding a competition to see how they can screw up this area with incredible resources and natural beauty.

*sighs* But it’s my home, and I love it here. 🙂
