Counting Blessings

thanksgivingThanksgiving is an interesting holiday for us. We don’t do much in the way of trimmings–turkey, decorating the house, etc. We’ve spent Thanksgiving in a cabover camper eating pizza and cookie dough before. This year I’ll be spending it in Oregon in an RV trailer. After the actual day, I’ll be helping my husband to set up crab traps.

But I do like the idea of a day in which we give thanks. That part of it I’m completely on board with. So, some random things I’m thankful for:

First of all, thanks to everyone I’ve met blogging. You’ve educated me and enriched my life, and that has been a gift beyond price. Thank you so much for that.

I’m grateful for family and real-life friendships, for the warmth in being able to hug another human being and tell them you love them.

I’m grateful beyond words for the love lavished on me by my border collie and German shepherd.

I’ve grown as a writer this year, and that is definitely something to be thankful for. I’m still trying to figure out the marketing thing, but at least the books should be worth reading when I publish them, whether that’s through trade publishers or Amazon.

I paid off my student loan this year. I’m definitely relieved to be shut of that thing.

I live in a beautiful place (the Sierra Nevada foothills of California), I have a roof over my head, a car to drive, clothes to wear–all the basic necessities are covered.

Really, it’s a lot to be grateful for. May you all have many blessings in your life as well. πŸ™‚

  4. What a fan-tab-ulous post. Indeed. we should be thankful with what we have instead of what we want. ❀ ❀ πŸ™‚

  6. This is a lovely sentiment, Cathleen, and so needed this year. To remember that we are truly and deeply blessed and perhaps to share the same with others.

Have fun with the crab traps. Sounds like a prickly adventure but interesting.

    • The crab traps are mostly just work. But it brings in cash, an important attribute in the winter when construction is dead. One day I”m hoping my writing will suffice to cover the seasonal shortages, by that day is not yet today. πŸ™‚

A beautiful post and I feel thankful every day for so much in my life – a lovely home, heating, food and especially my family and friends. Congratulations on paying off your student loan, that must be a relief!πŸ˜ƒπŸ˜€

    • I’ll wish you one in return, but since I took the actual day off the internet (I have to do this every so often for my sanity), it’ll be late. But I hope the weekend gives you time to knock some of the things you need to do off your list and rest up. πŸ™‚
